This is an oval lapis lazuli bowl, 16 cm long, made from fitted tiles in deep ultramarine blue with golden pyrite flecks and white calcite streaks.
The tiles are laid in a radiating pattern around a lighter periwinkle blue center. You can see the thin seams between each piece, which is how the mosaic is built. The inside is glossy and smooth, and the rim is rolled and rounded. The pyrite catches the light when you turn the bowl, and the blue shifts from dark near the edges to paler in the middle. Lapis lazuli is traditionally associated with the throat and third eye chakras. The stone comes from Afghanistan.
It works as a small dish for rings, trinkets or candy, or as a bowl on an altar or desk.
