Afghan Mamluk area rug, 150 x 103 cm. The field is warm yellow with a carved-looking pile and a pictorial scene in dark green, brown, teal, rust red, and black. A spotted cheetah stands near the center. Small birds sit across the upper field. Fringe is visible at both ends.
This is hand-knotted in Afghanistan and colored with vegetable dyes. The Mamluk carpet design started in Egypt during the Mamluk Sultanate, but this rug uses that style in a modern pictorial layout. It works on a floor by a desk, near a shelf, or in a small hall. We design this rug, and our production partner handcrafts it in Afghanistan.
All photos are taken in natural sunlight.
