Wildflower rug 298 x 210 cm. This Afghan Mamluk area rug has a muted blue-gray field with small floral and vine motifs in red, burgundy, ivory, green, gold, and rust. The border is busy but keeps a clear frame around the center.
It is hand-knotted and finished with light fringe at one end. The pattern uses a wide border with smaller motifs in the field. Vegetable dyes give the colors slight variation across the surface. In this style, Mamluk carpet design originated in Egypt during the Mamluk Sultanate. Traditionally associated with wisdom, truth, and inner peace, lapis is often used as a meditation stone or altar stone.
We design this rug, and our production partner handcrafts it in Afghanistan.
All photos are taken in natural sunlight.
