Wool area rug 10'4" x 6'8" ft from Afghanistan. Hand-knotted Mamluk style with a soft ivory field, multicolor floral medallion work, and a detailed border. The depth of blue on this piece is notable, with burgundy, rust, teal, sage, and gold accents across the field.
The Mamluk design originated in Egypt under the Mamluk Sultanate (1250-1517), and this layout follows that medallion-and-border structure with curved vine work and tighter geometry at the corners. Afghan wool retains about 30% of its natural oils, so the pile has a dry hand and a bit of natural resistance. Spot clean with wool-safe shampoo. Use a professional wash for deep cleans.
All photos are taken in natural sunlight.
