Wool kilim rug 8'0" x 5'9" ft from Afghanistan. This hand-knotted Mamluk rug has a magenta field, dark burgundy depth, and a dense floral medallion layout. The pile sits medium-low, so it lays with a firm feel and some presence underfoot.
It is woven on traditional wooden looms in Ghazni, Afghanistan, with fine knots and an estimated 40 knots per 10cm². The Mamluk design originated in Egypt under the Mamluk Sultanate (1250-1517), and this style keeps the mix of curved vines and geometric spacing. The fringe is visible on one end. The blue is not part of this piece; The color story here is magenta, burgundy, black, olive, gold, ivory, and small yellow accents.
