Moroccan wool rug 5'8" x 3'11" ft, handmade in Afghanistan. This Afghan Mamluk area rug has a warm ivory ground with dense red, rust, blue, teal, green, gold, and black detail. The design is built around medallions, with framed borders and vine work across the field.
Badakhshan has supplied lapis for over 6,000 years, the same source used by ancient Egyptians and Renaissance painters. This rug keeps the focus on the wool: hand-knotted construction, low to medium pile, and a textured finish that shows small asymmetries in the pattern. Those shifts are the weaver's mark, not defects. The rug lies flat and has short fringe at one end. Wool gets softer with use.
