Afghan Mamluk area rug, 186 x 128 cm. Beige ground with burgundy, teal, rust, olive, gold, and dark brown. Hand-knotted wool. The pattern is based on 1800s Turkish and Persian rug patterns, revived by Afghan weavers — now woven in Ghazni and northern Afghanistan. The field has repeated medallions, curved vine work, and a dense border. The pile is low and textured. The finish is softly aged, not polished.
This piece is natural and untreated. No dye added after weaving. Small shifts in the color are normal in wool and in natural plant and mineral dye work. The knotting is hand-knotted on a wooden loom with a Persian knot. Small asymmetries in the pattern are part of the weave. It works on the floor, under a desk, next to a bed, or on a shelf as a wall or table display.
