Flatweave rug 457 x 280 cm from Afghanistan. Handwoven kilim in deep red, black, ivory, tan, and small blue and magenta accents. No pile.
The field is dense and geometric. The border carries a stronger diamond band, and the darker ground keeps the red from reading too bright. Woven by Afghan Turkmen on horizontal wooden looms, with plant dyes: madder (red), indigo (blue), walnut (brown), pomegranate (yellow). It lies flat and works well under furniture or by a doorway where a low textile makes sense.
