Handwoven wool rug 355 x 258 cm from Afghanistan. This Afghan Merinos area rug has a deep burgundy-red field with navy, cobalt, cream, teal, and gold accents. It is hand-knotted with a dense, low-to-medium pile and visible fringe.
Woven with merino wool — finer and softer than standard sheep wool. The tighter knots keep the motif lines clear, and merino fibers hold dye differently than coarse wool, so the color reads softer and more layered up close. Wool foundation helps support the base. Wool also softens and gains shine with decades of use. Traditionally associated with wisdom, truth, and inner peace, and believed to support meditation work as a floor piece or altar mat.
