Afghan Volayati area rug 308 x 201 cm in deep red and navy. Hand-knotted wool, new condition, with repeated medallions and a tight border.
This one comes from Afghanistan. The design is Volayati, with geometric medallion designs — bolder and simpler than Khamyab. The field is dense and the border is dark, so the pattern reads clearly from a distance. Hand-spun wool rather than machine-spun. It takes approximately 6 months per area-sized piece. Spot clean with wool-safe shampoo, and use a professional wash for deep cleans.
