Afghan Beljik area rug 205 x 150 cm. Hand-knotted in Afghanistan with merino wool. The field is deep red and burgundy with dense green floral medallions, warm ivory notes, and multiple border bands. The fringe is gold-toned. The pile looks tight and even, with a low-to-medium finish.
Beljik rugs use finer wool than standard sheep wool, so the knots sit tighter. This one reads dense in hand and on the floor. It comes from Afghanistan, Badakhshan wool supply, and the pattern sits in the Bokhara / gul style with repeating medallion work. Wool from this region holds some natural oil, so it has a slightly firm feel. It works on a desk floor, under a table, or on a shelf as a textile display when folded.
All photos are taken in natural sunlight.
