Afghan Volayati area rug, 300 x 200 cm. Deep red field, navy lattice, and cream border work. Hand-knotted in Afghanistan from wool. The pile looks low and dense, with slight natural wear and a flat surface.
This rug is from Badakhshan, Afghanistan, and the Volayati style is woven in the Ghazni region. It takes approximately 6 months per area-sized piece. Hand-spun wool is often used, and wool naturally repels moisture, so spot cleaning is usually straightforward. It sits well under a desk, in a study, or along a shelf wall. The color is darker in the center and lighter in the border. All photos are taken in natural sunlight.
