Persian wool rug 9'11" x 6'9" ft from Afghanistan. Deep navy field with a gold center medallion, maroon border, and small ivory, turquoise, and green details. White fringe at one end. The pile looks medium-low and dense, not fluffy. Hand-knotted in the Persian style on a wooden loom, with merino wool on a wool foundation.
This Volayati rug is a working floor rug, not a soft shag type. It should sit well under a desk, in a shelf-front room, or across a larger seating area. Natural dye gives the color its depth. An area-sized rug like this usually takes 8-14 months of continuous weaving. Around 40 knots per 10cm² is common in this tier.
All photos are taken in natural sunlight.
