Mamluk Turkish design wool rug 7'10" x 5'11" ft from Afghanistan. Hand-knotted Volayati area rug in light blue, red, burgundy, black, cream, and muted gold. Low pile. 240x180cm.
This is merino wool on a wool foundation. Everyday rugs — sturdy pile, neutral palette. The knot count is tighter than normal, around 60 per 10cm² instead of the usual 40. Small asymmetries in the panels are part of the weave, not defects. Natural dye variation shows in a few spots, with abrash in the lighter ground. It works under a dining table, in a hallway with traffic, or at the foot of a queen bed. Traditionally associated with wisdom, truth, and inner peace; some buyers use it as a meditation rug or altar textile.
