Custom wool rug 7'10" x 5'11" ft from Afghanistan. Hand-knotted Volayati area rug in beige, navy, burgundy, and muted red. The pile is low and dense. The border is tight. The medallions stay crisp across the field.
This one is made for everyday use. Merino wool on a wool foundation, with tighter knots than normal and a denser build than most rugs in this style. Wool has natural oil content, so it resists water a bit better than plain fiber and it wears in well. Vacuum it regularly and spot-clean with a mild shampoo when needed. It should soften over time and keep color for decades. Woven in Afghanistan, likely on traditional wooden looms in Ghazni, and it passes through many hands before it reaches this finished form.
