Braided wool rug 6'8" x 4'12" ft from Afghanistan. This hand-knotted Afghan Volayati rug is 204 x 152 cm with a bright blue field, deep navy border, and red, ivory, and tan details. The knotting is tight and the pile feels dense under hand.
Volayati rugs are woven in the Ghazni region of Afghanistan, and this one uses geometric medallion designs that are bolder and simpler than Khamyab. It works in a hallway, under a small dining table, or next to a queen bed. The wool foundation helps it hold up in higher-traffic spots. The natural dyes leave small color shifts in the blue, which you can see when the light changes.
