Luxurious handmade rug featuring a tight, top-quality 50/50 double-knot weave and soft sheep's wool amazingly soft to touch.
Badakhshan lapis has been mined for more than 6,000 years. It came from the same mountain source used by ancient Egyptians and later Renaissance painters. This Afghan Volayati rug uses that same northern Afghan region as part of the name, and the piece here is a hand-knotted wool rug in a 205 x 153 cm size.
The field is light blue with a rust-red border, ivory panels, gold, burgundy, black, and muted teal. It has a tight floral vine pattern and multiple border bands. This is everyday rugs — sturdy pile, neutral palette. The knots are tighter than normal, around 60 per 10cm² instead of the usual 40, and the wool is denser than a typical rug of this size. It is Merino wool on a wool foundation. Wool is naturally moisture-repellent and spot-cleans easily. It fits a queen bed layout, works under a dining table, and has enough body for a hallway or medium-traffic room.
