Antique wool rug 200 x 155 cm from Afghanistan. Hand-knotted Volayati with a blue field, dark border, and tight floral lion work. Low pile. Clean edges. It has the weight you want underfoot.
This one is made to hold up. Wool has a natural oil content, so it resists light spills better than plain fiber and usually softens as it ages instead of wearing thin fast. Vacuum it regularly and spot-clean with a wool-safe shampoo. For a deep clean, a professional wash is the safer route. Volayati rugs like this are everyday rugs — sturdy pile, neutral palette — and this size is usually finished over about 6 months. The knots are tighter than normal, around 60 per 10cm² instead of the usual 40, and the construction is denser than you’d expect at this size.
Woven in Afghanistan. The blue stays strong in daylight, and the dark border keeps the pattern grounded. This is the kind of rug that can stay in use for decades if it’s cared for properly. All photos are taken in natural sunlight.
