Luxurious handmade rug featuring a tight, top-quality 50/50 double-knot weave and soft sheep's wool amazingly soft to touch. Indian wool rug 6'9" x 5'3" ft from Afghanistan. This hand-knotted Volayati rug has a deep red field, navy border, and ivory floral details. The pile is dense. The knots are tighter than normal, around 60 per 10cm² instead of the usual 40.
Volayati rugs like this one take approximately 6 months per area-sized piece. The medallion layout is bolder and simpler than Khamyab. The wool has natural oils, so it holds up well in a room with steady foot traffic, like a dining room, hallway, or next to a bed. The color comes from double-dyeing the wool before weaving, and the small abrash changes you see are part of that process. It lies flat and feels solid underfoot.
