Luxurious handmade rug featuring a tight, top-quality 50/50 double-knot weave and soft sheep's wool amazingly soft to touch. Small wool rug 204 x 154 cm from Afghanistan. This Afghan Volayati area rug has a light blue field, cream border, navy, rust, muted gold, and beige details. The motifs read as geometric medallions with floral border work. It is hand-knotted and still has the fringe at both ends.
Volayati rugs are woven in the Ghazni region of Afghanistan, with geometric medallion designs that are bolder and simpler than Khamyab. The knots are tighter than normal, and the wool is denser than you usually see at this size. Small pattern shifts are normal. They are the weaver's mark, not defects. Wool softens and gains shine with use over time. This size works on a desk-side floor, under a coffee table, near a shelf, or in a narrow room.
