Luxurious handmade rug featuring a tight, top-quality 50/50 double-knot weave and soft sheep's wool amazingly soft to touch. Wool kilim rug 6'7" x 4'11" ft from Afghanistan. Hand-knotted Afghan Volayati area rug with a deep red field, navy medallion, ivory floral details, and fringe at one end.
This one is woven in the Ghazni region of Afghanistan. Volayati rugs take approximately 6 months per area-sized piece. The wool is dense and tighter than a basic village weave, with a finer knot build than standard rugs of this style. Afghan wool keeps some of its natural oils, so it tends to resist water a bit better than plain sheep wool. The wool in pieces like this is also known to soften and gain a light shine with use over time. Lapis is traditionally associated with wisdom, truth, and inner peace, and is believed to support throat and third eye focus during meditation or altar use.
