Thick wool rug 9'10" x 6'7" ft from Afghanistan. Hand-knotted Volayati pattern in slate gray, navy, ivory, and muted gold. The pile is low and dense.
Woven in the Ghazni region of Afghanistan. Takes approximately 6 months for an area-sized piece. Wool has natural oil content, so it sheds water better than cotton and can be vacuumed, then spot-cleaned with wool-safe shampoo. The foundation is tight and built for traffic. The knots are finer than normal, which gives the design sharper lines and a heavier feel underfoot.
