Afghan Beljik handmade rug, 187 x 132 cm (6'2" x 4'4" ft), hand-knotted wool with a deep red field, navy borders, and ivory medallions. The pattern is tight and busy. The fringe is cream.
This is a Beljik weave with tribal patterns with guls and medallions. The knot count is tighter than normal for this style, around 60 per 10cm² versus the usual 40. The wool is fine and dense, so the surface sits firm. It is made in Afghanistan. Lapis is traditionally associated with wisdom, truth, and inner peace, and is believed to support the throat and third eye chakras, but that is separate from this rug. This rug lies flat and has a dense feel under hand.
